Diesel Fuel Additives

Diesel Fuel Additives

Is anyone currently using a Diesel Fuel Additive?

If so which one?

Is the fuel supplier adding it at the depo or is being added to the tanks when the fuel is delivered?

Is anyone having the operator add it directly to the truck when they get fuel?

We are not currently using fuel additives. Its extremely difficult to manage a program like this since we mainly fuel at retail locations and the vehicles being domiciled at multiple locations over our 4 State service area. We did try getting our driver to add it to the fuel in the past and that did not go well at all.

An additive to improve the lubricity of the ULSF is being considered but the logistics of managing it are the challenge, as mentioned by dcorne, since we too are a 48 state operation purchasing fuel from retail outlets.

We currently run an asphaltene fuel conditioner additive in our bus fleets. This has helped cut down on asphaltene contamination in our fuel filters that we've been experiencing ever since ULSD was introduced in 2007. We're planning to finish testing around March or May to see if we've had any significant effect in the number of unscheduled fuel filter changes.

we currently use Clean Boost in our B5 Bio-Diesel and have great results. I no longer have any issues with my fuel since using this product and I have been using it for the last 4 years. I also use it in my unleaded fuel to help reduce emissions. It is added to the fuel by the supplier at the depo which makes it very convenient.

We are using with satisfaction an additive MEG corpration. Since using it we run #2 deisel in our trucks from our in ground tanks year round. Trucks are parked inside when not in use.

I just sat through a dog and pony show presented by Certified about tank additives to increase cetane, lubricity and a biocide. Their numbers looked really good, as all do. Does anyone have feed back about this company?

We're testing Certified Labs' products in our fuel station tank. We had them flush the creepy crawlies out of our tank and we've been using their cetane boost and periodic biocide since about mid-October. We pulled an analysis on our solid waste diesel trucks this week comparing last January - mid-March consumption with this year, and we're looking at a .2 mpg increase. Not much at first glance, but our solid waste fleet burns 250K gallons of diesel a year. Looks encouraging so far...

Thanks, that's good to know. I think we may replace our Bio-Diesel tank with the blend. That's a small percentage of our diesel fleet and easy to monitor. Our entire fleet we use about 300k yearly.
