What is your established rental period limitation for fleet rental equipment and how would you define 'long term rental'?

At UCDavis, a vehicle can be rented by the hour (Car Share, or fondly known as UC Drive) or by the day from our motor pool.  If a vehicle is needed for more than 2 months but less than 12, we consider that a Short Term Assigment with a reduced rate.  A rental of more than 12 months is a Long Term or Permanent Assignment.

At PG&E we can rent two different types of units.  Internally we can rent pool vehicles by the hour or by the day.  Externally, we have accounts with major car and equipment rental companies.  Pool unit rentals are tracked but not for "long term" rental purposes.  External rentals are tracked and are considered "long term" rentals after 90 days.  We have a tiered approval process for all external rentals that can require up to an officer approval depending on duration of the rent.
