In my company we are trying to find a new fuel card to use. I am wondering what any one here uses and recommendations on a good fuel card.
When trying to find the best fuel card for your application you should consider how the cards will be used. First, is your company international, national, or regional. What is the biggest driver for your company, service or price? How much detailed data are you looking for with you fuel transactions? Is availability of fuel very important? (More important than price?) There are a number of products that meet specific needs, but until I have more information, I hesitate to offer any recommendations.
I think that fraud prevention and card security need to be top fleet priorities. All the universal cards - Wright Express, Voyager, FuelMan (or whatever they call themselves these days) offer a high level of security and reporting capabilities so that you can control the use of your fuel card which goes a LONG way towards controlling costs. And most offer some kind of discount program based on volume as well. I highly recommend going this route!
We use Wright Express to fuel about 3100 vehicles both on-site and off-site. We have been satisfied with their service and have found no issues uses the cards across the country as we assist other utilities during storms. We assign the card to the vehicle which works pretty well. We have discussed changing the process to assign the card to the user, but we have a number of shared vehicles in our engineering and meter reading departments and are not sure the work to change the process is worth it. The benefit to assigning the card to the user is we have employees that forget to put the card back in the vehicle after fueling.
