Utilization Metrics

Utilization Metrics

Hello All,

I'm looking to see if anyone currently has metrics that they are using to measure Fleet Utilization.  Is there anything you are currently using that shows whether a piece of equipment is under utilized? Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

We consider any vehicle that uses less than 50% of the monthly class average of fuel and/or mileage as under-utilized.

This, of course, requires you to calculate the average monthly mileage and/or fuel usage per vehicle, but also vehicle type.  A simple example based on mileage:

Vehicle 1234, a light duty pickup truck, averages 300 miles per month.  Light duty pickups in your fleet average 1000 miles per month.  Therefore, vehicle 1234 would be considered under-utilized because it drives 200 fewer miles than 50% of the class average (50% x 1000 miles = 500 miles).

Thank you, that's the kind of example I was looking for.  I appreciate your reply.
