Bucket Truck Boom Rust

Bucket Truck Boom Rust

Is anyone having rust problems on their bucket arms that are requiring you to take a truck out of service?  We are seeing rust at the metal to fiberglass connection on the arm as well as on the bucket cylinder.

I'm responding on behalf of GGoodrich, who wrote:

"The area of the boom where it goes from steel to fiberglass needs to be inspected. This is to make sure there isn't separation, which you are seeing as being rust. If it is separating, it will need to be reconditioned. As far as the bucket cylinder, do you mean, the bucket tilt/swivel cylinder? Usually, this can be accomplished by cleaning, priming and painting."

You will need to have the boom reconditioned and retested.  It's a factory repair and you're proably talking about $10k assuming you remove the boom and ship it to the manufacturer.

Hope it works out well for you.
